The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has fired his Chief of Staff, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-eyen.

The notice of sack was announced via the verified Facebook page of the Akwa Ibom State Government and signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG),  Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem.

According to the Dr. Ekuwem,  the sack is with immediate effect and was necessitated by “the urgent need to  match skill set and competencies to the task of maintaining  the momentum of  economic development  in peace,” stressing that “your services are no longer required and you are hereby relieved of your position, as Chief of Staff ( CoS)  to His Excellency, the Governor with immediate effect.”

The statement directed  Akparawa to hand over all property of government in his possession to the Secretary to State Government.

Insider reports indicate that the sack may not be unconnected with ensuing succession battles in Akwa Ibom State.

Barely a week ago, Governor Udom in a report published by Wazobia Politics had denied that his preferred successor was tearing his Party, the Peoples Democratic Party, apart in the State.

He said, “As a leader I am entitled to only one vote during the party primaries and the general elections. And that my vote is not for violence, it is not for the man that will go and carry gun and point on your head to grab power.

“Whoever grabs power by violence will rule by violence. So I am telling you that my vote is for peace, it is for progress, it is for economic prosperity, for infrastructural development, unity and I can keep counting.

“So our party the PDP is not divided anything. Those social media things we read is not helping us in any matter. I don’t follow those things, I must get focused; I don’t need those distractions”.

The latest development, however, appears to contradict his claims.
