Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Works and Transport has donated N5.5 million to 190 youths, as economic empowerment, across the 19 wards in Alkaleri Local Government  Area.

Ibrahim, who made this known on Tuesday in Bauchi, said the initiative was aimed at promoting small scale businesses in the area.

He said the amount was distributed in the ratio of 10 beneficiaries per ward and each of the beneficiaries received a token of N20,000  to enable him to start some businesses.

According to him, the female beneficiaries were expected to engage in productive ventures such as making of groundnut and bean cake while their male counterparts could venture into agriculture to support themselves.

The commissioner explained that the beneficiaries included unemployed youth and women, saying we have distributed 150 bundles of clothing materials to some women who were not included in the cash donation.

Alhaji Ibrahim reiterated that the initiative was informed by the need to complement the efforts of Gov. Bala Mohammed’s mass empowerment programme aimed at achieving poverty reduction and employment generation.

Hajiya Aishatu Ibrahim, a beneficiary who lauded the effort of the programme initiator, said she would make judicious use of the donation to transform her life by engaging in a productive venture.
